Hi! I’m so glad to see you here. My name is Catarina and I’m a languages teacher. I've been teaching English, French and Portuguese for several years now, and it's incredibly enjoyable. It's so much fun to connect with different kinds of students, hear their stories, and help them with their language problems. It's great to see a student's level improve.

I'm a psychology graduate ('12) and while psychology is still a major passion, I didn't think the actual work suited my personality and I went off to find something different. I went traveling all over the world and started teaching English to support myself. That's when I found it was something I really enjoyed doing, and I've been doing it on-and-off ever since.

I've always wanted to try online teaching but was unsure of where to start - now that I've started, I can say I personally find it more effective and fulfilling (not to mention convenient) than regular classes. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and for you to get to know me, my method, and see what a class with me is like. I hope to see you soon!

I have been teaching English for 6+ years. My specialty is conversational English and tutoring, but I've done all kinds of teaching to every age demographic. My English level is C2, as certified by my CPE qualification, and I have also had a TESOL certification for 3 years.

For the past three years I've been a languages teacher at a homework club for teenagers. Before that I have worked in language schools around the world teaching mostly (but not only) general conversational English to children and adults.

I can help you with things like grammar and CV and interview preparation, but my specialty and my favorite thing to teach have always been conversational lessons.

It really is rewarding work, but most importantly, it fulfills my main objective - to get you to use your English. The single best way to get comfortable with a new language is to practice it - over and over and over again. Even if your main problem is grammar, it’s by using it more and more that it will stop being a problem for you.

So that’s what I aim to do in my classes - to get you to use the language as much as possible. I want you to feel comfortable with making mistakes, because all of us make many mistakes when we’re learning a new language. But the freer and more comfortable you feel, the more you’ll speak and the more you’ll learn.

When you first come to me, I’ll ascertain your English level through a series of tests, written and oral. I’ll also need to get to know you, your motivation for learning English, your specific needs and your interests, because these things will help me tailor my classes specifically to you (from the choice of discussion topics to the choice of materials - videos, news stories, etc.). Everyone is most motivated to learn when they’re reading or writing or speaking about things relevant to them.

Then our language journey can begin! It's going to be a marathon, but hopefully much more enjoyable.

Olá! Que bom ver-te aqui. O meu nome é Catarina e sou professora de línguas. Ensino inglês, francês e português há vários anos e é ótimo. É um prazer conhecer diferentes tipos de alunos, conhecer-lhes as histórias, e ajudá-los a avançar no seu nível linguístico.

Sou licenciada em Psicologia e embora esta seja ainda uma grande paixão, não achei que a vertente prática se adequasse à minha personalidade então fui em busca de algo diferente. Fui viajar pelo mundo e comecei a ensinar inglês para me sustentar. Foi aí que percebi que gostava muito de ensinar, e é o que tenho feito desde então. Há três anos comecei também a ensinar português (a minha língua nativa) e é igualmente interessante.

Sempre quis experimentar ensinar online mas não tinha a certeza de como começar - agora que comecei, posso dizer que para mim é mais eficaz e recompensador (e conveniente) do que as aulas comuns. Sou falante nativa de português. Sou professora há 6+ anos, em Portugal e no estrangeiro, e professora especificamente de português há 3 anos. Trabalhei em centros de estudos e a dar aulas individuais online.

Posso ajudar-te com coisas específicas como a gramática e a preparação para entrevistas, mas a minha especialidade são as aulas conversacionais.

É um trabalho muito interessante e recompensador, e atinge o meu objetivo principal - pôr-te a falar a língua. A melhor maneira de ficarmos à vontade com uma língua nova é praticando-a - uma e outra e outra vez. Mesmo que o teu principal problema seja a gramática, isso são arestas que são limadas pelo uso constante da língua em contexto prático.

Por isso é isso que tento nas minhas aulas - fazer-te falar o máximo de tempo possível. Quero que te sintas confortável com a ideia de cometer erros, porque todos nós cometemos quando estamos a aprender uma língua nova, é parte essencial do processo. Mas quanto mais livre te sentires, mais falarás e mais aprenderás.

Na primeira aula vou discernir o teu nível de português com algumas perguntas e testes, e quererei também conhecer-te, conhecer o que te motivou a querer aprender português, as tuas necessidades e interesses, porque isso vai ajudar-me a adaptar aulas futuras ao teu perfil. Afinal, todos aprendemos melhor quando o material usado nos é relevante.
