Nice first class, fun and informative! Valeria helped me clarify a couple of doubts I’d had for quite some time. I’ll definitely continue booking lessons with her, grazie Valeria
About me - English
Ciao! My name is Valeria, I was born and raised in Rome, Italy.
I've been a language teacher for over 10 years, teaching mainly Italian as a foreign language and also English to Italian kids, in both schools and as a private tutor. In 2013 I moved to London for a year and there I began to teach Italian. It was a great experience and after coming back to Rome I continued to tutor online a couple of students I had met while in London. That was the start of my online tutoring which has continued up to the present.
I am a really enthusiastic and dynamic teacher with a lifelong passion for foreign languages and cultures.
To me a new language is like a fascinating new world to explore!
Qualifications & Experience
I got my Master's Degree in modern languages (English and French) from the University of Rome La Sapienza, after that I got my DITALS Certificate from the University of Siena, to teach Italian as a foreign/second language with a focus on adult learners.
I like being engaged in continuous learning so I frequently attend lectures, seminars and webinars to update my language teaching techniques and discover new ones.
Teaching Approach
Over my 10 years of teaching I've gathered and created plenty of learning material such as:
- textbooks (I have a preference for Alma Publisher)
- pdfs
- audio files
- video files
- flashcards
- interactive games
- interactive slides
- authentic material taken from real-life situations
I'll be happy to share all these with you in my classes!
My favorite motto about learning is: tell me and I’ll forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I’ll learn.
My students always play an active role, as that makes confidence and motivation grow from the start.
The trial lesson will assess your level, goals and needs. Then, for each lesson, I’ ll provide you with the learning material, we’ll go through it, reflect on the theory and then you’ll do a lot of practice to strengthen your grammar and vocabulary.
Please, keep in mind that my lessons are TAILORED to you.
However, here’s how a standard lesson is structured:
Review of the previous lesson (with the support of flashcards)
Quiz/games or conversation practice to reinforce past grammar structures/vocabulary/idioms
New structure is introduced through pdf, video or audio file
Practice of new through conversation/interactive exercises
I love chatting with people from all over the world But a language is also the expression of a culture, so I’ll be glad to help you discover more about Italian habits, life-style, traditions, idioms and gestures.
