My name is Huguette De Antoni, I'm 49 years old and I have been a Dutch language teacher since 2002. I worked in Amsterdam till 2020 and now live in Zürich, Switzerland. Since I was young, I've always loved languages and have studied several different languages in the UK, Switzerland, Spain, and France.

My background: in 1998 I graduated with a degree in Law from the University of Utrecht and the Université de Toulouse, during which time I was also a Tutor of International Law, providing lessons for groups of 20 law students.

Additionally, I pursued a certification in Masterclass Coaching, graduating in 2008, followed by the TEFL/TESOL certificate in 2010.

Since then I have achieved multiple certifications, including the Certificate Grammar Awareness, Certificate Teaching Business English and Certificate of Proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge. I have also been granted the Diplôme Supérieur d’ Alliance Française.

After my law studies I worked at an international publishing firm and subsequently at a recruitment firm, however I longed to return to teaching. In 2002 I decided to start teaching Dutch at several language institutes and later started my own company. I've been instructing expats at all levels, for both private and corporate clients, including law firms, consultancy firms, and banks.

If you are a beginner, the primary goal of my approach is to rapidly enable you to communicate in practical, everyday situations such as having short conversations with your colleague or neighbour, understanding current events, or shopping. It's important to gain confidence in speaking and listening to make life in a Dutch environment more comfortable and fun.

If you're more advanced, the focus is on communication (both verbal and written) in more complex situations, including business contexts. This can include how to communicate more effectively in meetings, presentations, telephone calls, and via emails and/or letters. Ultimately, this depends on your specific goals and focus areas.

I have found that students are more engaged and learn faster via a personal and flexible approach. Instead of focusing on a textbook, I tailor the approach, pace, and content to meet your specific skills, expectations, and areas of interest.

We will also spend time on typical Dutch habits and cultural aspects, such as how the Dutch celebrate birthdays or national holidays, regional differences, and other nuanced aspects of Dutch life. This multifaceted approach makes the lessons more flexible and more enjoyable, which results in a faster learning curve.

The method and materials I have developed, which are now used in several renowned language institutes in the Netherlands, have helped my students to achieve a 100% pass rate in the Dutch national naturalisation examinations.

Mijn achtergrond: ik heb rechten gestudeerd aan de Universiteit Utrecht en l'Université de Toulouse. Tijdens mijn rechtenstudie gaf ik les aan groepen van 20 rechtenstudenten.

ik geef sinds 2002 Nederlandse les aan cursisten op alle niveaus, zowel privé als bij bedrijven, advocatenkantoren en consultancybureaus.

Doel van mijn lessen is om je zo spoedig mogelijk en met meer zelfvertrouwen te leren communiceren in het Nederlands. Ik hanteer een persoonlijke, flexibele aanpak die ik afstem op jouw wensen en (werk- of privé)situatie. Voor na de les geef ik tips over artikelen die je kunt lezen of Nederlandse films en series die je helpen om vooruitgang te boeken.

Ik bespreek ook de typisch Nederlandse gewoontes en culturele aspecten, zoals hoe Koningsdag of bijvoorbeeld verjaardagen in Nederland gevierd worden. Deze veelzijdige aanpak maakt het volgen van de lessen plezierig, wat leidt tot een sneller leerproces.

Als je al op een hoger niveau Nederlands spreekt, dan is het van belang waar en wanneer je in het Nederlands moet kunnen spreken. Afhankelijk van jouw persoonlijke wensen, besteed ik in de lessen meer aandacht aan onderdelen als vergaderen, het voeren van telefoongesprekken, het schrijven van e-mails en het geven van een presentatie.

Ik werk niet met een vaststaand lesschema of vooraf gekozen lesmateriaal maar kies voor de lesmethode die het beste bij je past. De lessen zullen ingevuld worden op basis van je niveau, je leerwijze en jouw persoonlijke wensen en leerdoelen. Een groot deel van het lesmateriaal heb ik zelf ontwikkeld en wordt nu ook gebruikt door gerenommeerde taleninstituten.

Ik maak in de lessen gebruik van communicatieve leermethodes waarbij het accent ligt op spreken en luisteren. Vanzelfsprekend kan je zelf bepalen of je meer de nadruk op een ander onderdeel wil leggen, zoals schrijfvaardigheid. Grammatica komt ook zeker aan bod, maar leren communiceren staat centraal.
